Equipped - Empowered - Encouraged:  TLC Coaches

Richland Lutheran Church’s vision is to make Jesus Christ known to all people and advance His kingdom.  We try to fulfill our vision through our mission by entering and engaging the world as God himself did through the person and work of Jesus Christ.

Just imagine a world in which all believers impact others for Christ by walking journeys illuminated solely by God’s Word and in harmony with their God-ordained purposes!  Trinity Living© is an experience designed to help people identify very specifically who they are in Christ so they can live as God intended.

God started laying the groundwork for this ministry years ago. In response to churches wanting to bring the concepts of Christian life coaching to their congregants, the Professional Christian Coaching and Counseling Academy (PCCCA) published a course under the name Christian Coach Light©.  Dr. Leelo Bush, founder of PCCCA through which I received certification as a Master Christian Life Coach (MCLC), and I worked together on a new course entitled, Trinity Living©, a revision and update of Christian Coach Light©. So far, 22 people have participated in the effective, life-changing, and God-honoring peer-coaching program we call Trinity Living©.

After completing the Trinity Living© peer-coaching experience, many people felt the Holy Spirit leading them to do more. Four of them accepted a call to become a Trinity Living© Christian Life coach.  They have just concluded this phase of training which included group sessions, supervised practicums, and one-on-one coaching.  In fact, the training they have received through the combination of the peer-coaching and coach training qualifies them for certification through PCCCA in addition to the TLC certification awarded in this congregation.

Sandi Edgemon, Ginnette Ernst, Karin Nickola, and Kelly Westlund have committed to serving on the Trinity Living© Coaching Ministry Team for two years.  In addition to coaching people to more abundant Christian living, they will also help develop the structure around this ministry.

I am truly excited to be a part of this  ministry at RLC.  In my own experiences as a parent, preschool teacher, childcare provider, Children’s Ministry Assistant and Pastor’s Assistant, I have seen how hard it can sometimes be to make changes in my own life...even those that are necessary.

Through the Peer Coaching course, I learned just how valuable an accountability partner can be in the process of setting and reaching your goals.  I find it to be a fascinating process; one in which you can learn so much about your own gifts and core values, and most importantly what God wants for your life.  He has a vision, a purpose, for each one of us.  When we live our lives for Him, we find an overflowing joy that comes from knowing that we are doing His will.

I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the RLC family as a Trinity Living© Christian life  coach - to help each person feel equipped, empowered, and encouraged to lead full lives for Christ, to live out their life’s mission for His purposes.

It is exhilarating to be called to the Trinity Living© Christian life coach ministry at the Richland Lutheran Church. I look forward to serving the members of our congregation and growing the ministry  to its full potential. In a very natural process, we all reach goals and surpass  obstacles every day. Sometimes, however, we get bogged down in complexities and find ourselves stuck. That's where a Christian life coach can lend a hand. Through Christ, a Christian life coach can help you discover ways to start moving forward again. I am reminded of a verse from The Rose, "Far beneath the bitter snow, lies the seed, that with the sun's love, in the spring, becomes the rose." As a Christian, I know it is really the "Son's love" that transforms. With Christ's love, we all have the capacity to experience joy, as we turn seeds into roses.

I was baptized in the Richland Lutheran Church as a young child. I remain active in the church today. I hold a Bachelor's and a Master's degree. I led corporate communications programs for 14 years. I taught school and directed education programs in multi-cultural settings for 16 years. I am an athlete. It is my undying faith in God and all my life experiences that prepare me for this ministry.

Our life with Christ is a journey that takes us on many unexpected adventures.  Sometimes on this  journey we need extra support, encouragement, perspective or ccountability to help us move forward towards God's purpose and plans for our lives.

I believe that Trinity Living© Coaching is a great resource to help Christians connect with the Holy Spirit and become more active in their relationship with Christ.  I am excited to be a part of this ministry because it allows me to join other people's journeys and see God at work in their lives.

Jesus actively engaged in the lives of His disciples and those who sought His healing and help. As Jesus’ follower I am to model His behavior; being open and supportive, providing direction, and speaking God’s truth in love to connect my family, friends, employees, coworkers, and others to God and each other. My mission is to connect with others as the Holy Spirit leads, specially those who hurt and need to accept God’s mercy and truth so they can choose to live effective, Christ-filled lives.

As a Christian life coach, I prayerfully listen to the Holy Spirit’s direction and help others understand and use God’s Word and tools to
live purposefully for Him. Sometimes achieving a coaching participant’s purpose means helping him or her put aside fear and walk in faith to reach his or her God-given potential. Another time it means letting go of destructive lies that Satan has tricked the coaching participant into believing, instead of embracing the truth that he or she is God’s child and able to do all things through Jesus. Yet another time it means entering into a relationship to help the participant stay accountable to his or her intention or objective.

What a privilege it is to prayerfully support and walk alongside coaching participants as they seek to understand God’s truth, set goals, and take action to achieve God’s will for their lives!

In addition to coaching and developing others, my professional  experience includes over 20 years of progressive leadership development,  organizational effectiveness, human resources, marketing, sales, business development, and public relations. My career includes over 17 years working with electric utilities in energy efficiency, key account management, customer  service, and new generation projects. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Georgia. Glenn, my husband, and I live in West Richland, Washington, with our dogs Maddie and Amy and enjoying hiking, rock-hounding, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

Trinity Living Coaching FAQ's

What are the characteristics of a typical participant?

A highly capable, goal-oriented, emotionally stable individual who wishes to evaluate present circumstances, make plans for the future, set goals, and take action is the kind of person who tends to seek Christian life coaching.

When might a person consider hiring a coach?

There are two common situations in which people seek the help  of a Christian life coach.  One is when facing major life changes such as  marriage, a new job, or birth of a child.  The other is when they just have an overall dissatisfaction with life, and wish to take a fresh look at how they are living life.  The applications of Christian life coaching are limitless.

How is coaching different from counseling?

Counseling is a process through which people reflect on their past to find direction for the future.  Counseling is usually sought out of a need to heal an emotional issue or crises.  Christian life coaching is a process through which clients focus on their present circumstances and set goals for changing their future.  Christian life coaching is usually sought out of a desire to have support, guidance, and accountability in making life transitions.

How is Christian coaching different from secular or new-age coaching?

Secular coaching focuses on the desires and goals of the person being coached.  The goal is to help the person achieve the goals he or she sets for him or herself.

Christian life coaching focuses on the participant's relationship with Christ.  The goal of Christian life coaching is to allow the Holy Spirit to guide the process of helping the participant identify the unique purpose for which he or she was created.  By relying on the Holy Spirit to guide the process, both the participant and the coach are relieved of the typical tendency to force an outcome, and relying instead on the Lord's will and timing.

What kind of training does a Christian life coach receive?

The training of Christian life coaches can vary greatly.  Our lead coach is certified as a Master Christian Life Coach through the Professional Christian Coaching and Counseling Academy, the first coaching school to be accredited by the United Association of Christian Counselors and
Chaplains
.  The designation as Master Christian Life Coach means the coach has completed a rigorous program under the direction and guidance of the president and found of the academy, in addition to the basic certification received prior to acceptance to the master program.

How many sessions does a typical particiant need?

The answer to this question depends on the client's goal and complexity of the issues.  Though some people use coaches on a regular basis and throughout the year, some people will use at least four sessions to make progress toward their goals.  The most important thing is to remain open to the plans and the timelines the Holy Spirit leads you to and through.

What  are some of the by-products of a successful coaching relationship?

The person being coached:
* achieves more than if he or she was working alone.
* begins to take themselves and their goals more seriously.
* finds more momentum in the partnership.
* begins to behave more consistently.
* develops more effective strategies, resulting in more focused actions.
* transfers the same principles learned in coaching to other areas of life.

What are the costs of not using a Christian life coach to help achieve goals?

The list above includes some of the by-products of a successful coaching relationship.  If you want to establish a business, coaching is essential!  The longer it takes to put your plan  together and into action, the longer it will take to turn a profit.
